Welcome to Class 3

Welcome to Class 3's page (Year Three and Year Four). I, Mrs Speed, am excited to be able to teach in Class 3 again this year. Some of the children, and yourselves, may still refer to me as Miss Latham, don't worry, I will answer to both. Year 3 and 4 are my favourite year groups to teach, I enjoy the wider curriculum and getting to explore new vocabulary in every lesson. I mostly enjoy keeping learning fun, exploring ways to best help to retain our knowledge and on the occasion, breaking into song. Within school I'll also be involved in choir club and getting stuck into sports activities where possible.
As many of you know, I spend much of my time at home with my beloved spaniel, Rodney. We spend many hours walking around the fields at my family farm. Rodney is also very much loved by the rest of the family but is most excited when he is with my husband or my mum, he definitely has his favourites.

SUMMER TERM 2026

Through Autumn and Spring term the children have travelled through 'The Ages'; Stone, Bronze, Iron. Their knowledge and skills in History and Geography continue to grow. This term we will look at how the Iron Age merged into The Roman Empire; focusing on Britain and how the Romans impacted Britain at this time and continue to do so today. Excitingly, we will visit Chester to consolidate and further knowledge and learn more about this Roman city. The term will also be packed with opportunities for exploration in Science; learning about states of matter and the water cycle. Also, Music this term will be lead by Love Music Trust, where Class 3 have an amazing opportunity to learn bass instruments and then play along with the Halle Orchestra in Manchester in June. Another packed term, full of learning and fun.

SPRING TERM 2026

During this term we will begin by retrieving our known knowledge of the New Stone Age and will delve into life in the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. We will refine our timeline skills, and discover more artefacts that inform historians and archaeologists of life during these times. We will also be using our geographical skills to look at land use and how this has changed over time. Alongside this the children will be engaging in all other subjects, learning to use thread and paint to create multi-media art, understanding the life cycle of plants using pollination and the importance of this for all living things and being supported in developing swimming and gymnastics skills in PE. During the second half of Spring term, we will be taking a trip to Beeston to support our learning through the Ages.

For more information about what we will be learning across our entire curriculum have a look at our topic web and newsletter.
