Physical Education

'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me' – Philippians 4v13

We have a vision for everyone at Bridgemere to be lifelong learners; trying their best, enduring tough times with hope and courage and being open to new experiences.

We believe that God helps us to grow, especially through challenges, we therefore value resilience. In order to flourish, we aim to support every child and adult with the diverse challenges of everyday life.

  • Perseverance, creativity, trust, compassion, friendship, community, responsibility, thankfulness

As a Church of England school we believe that good education must promote life in all its fullness.

At Bridgemere the purpose of teaching Physical Education (PE) is to give children the tools and understanding required to make a positive impact on their own physical health and well-being. We want all children to experience a wide variety of sports and physical skills which will enhance positive life-long fitness choices. Our PE curriculum aims foster and promote self-esteem through the development of physical confidence and problem solving. It will teach children to cope with both success and failure in competitive, individual and team based physical activities. We believe in opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. We use The PE Hub for high quality PE planning that empowers the teachers to deliver better physical education.

Our aims and objectives:

  • To ensure that all children are taught a range of progressive skills across the school to help them flourish.
  • To provide a curriculum that is broad in its range of experiences and opportunities.
  • To promote and distil a positive approach to physical activity.
  • To provide all children with a rich and broad curriculum where they can access new experiences.
  • To allow all children to experience failures and successes.

All children at Bridgemere receive a minimum of 2 hours of PE each week that is taught by class teachers and outside specialists. Children have equal opportunities to take part in a range of sports and physical activities within a supportive environment where effort as well as success is recognised in equal measure.

The PE curriculum is structured to enable children in EYFS and KS1 to develop their fundamental skills through a range of games before enabling children in KS2 the opportunity to experience a range of sports experiences during which every child participates developing their skills and learning through competitive, team and individual sports. Through our provision children can aim to flourish at sports in which they have a particular interest or flair for. Children with additional needs are provided with appropriate support to enable them to take part and gain confidence in skills, understanding and motivation.

Children are encouraged to participate in physical activity throughout the day during PE lessons, extracurricular clubs, outdoor learning, play leaders, lunchtime provision with a coach from Sports Coaching Group as well as any special events that we hold within school.
